A Level 2 charger is electrical work — the legal part
The Pulsar Plus runs on a dedicated 240V circuit. In Alberta that makes the installation electrical work under the Safety Codes Act: it requires a municipal electrical permit and a follow-up inspection, and municipalities issue that permit to a licensed electrical contractor (a company with a Master Electrician of record) or to a homeowner doing their own work on the home they live in. A handyman or an unlicensed crew cannot legally run the circuit — and an unpermitted 240V install is exactly the kind of thing that surfaces during an insurance claim or a home sale.
Why who installs it changes what you actually get
Mounting the unit is the easy hour. The value is in four things that are invisible on install day:
- The load calculation. A 48A charger is one of the largest loads in your house. Someone has to do the panel math — service rating, existing loads, what’s left — before choosing 40A vs 48A. We do this in the free assessment, before quoting.
- Power Boost, actually configured. The Pulsar Plus ships with load management that throttles charging so your panel is never overloaded — but it only works if the measurement clamp is installed and configured. Installed properly, it’s the difference between “your panel qualifies” and “you need a $3,000+ service upgrade.”
- The permit and inspection. We file the municipal electrical permit and attend the inspection. You never chase either.
- The warranty. Wallbox backs the unit with a 3-year manufacturer warranty, and our installation carries Stellar’s 1-year installation warranty on top.
What it costs, installed — fixed and published
Stellar installs the Pulsar Plus at fixed pricing: $3,499 + GST for the 40A version (9.6 kW — plug-in or hardwired) and $3,999 + GST for the 48A version (11.5 kW, hardwired, up to 50 km of range added per hour). That includes the charger, the dedicated 240V circuit run by our electricians, the permit, the inspection, Power Boost configuration, and a walkthrough of the myWallbox app before we leave. Honest checklist: hiring anyone (including us)
Whoever you hire, verify four things in writing: (1) a municipal electrical permit will be pulled — ask who the Master Electrician of record is; (2) a load calculation will be done on your panel before the amperage is chosen; (3) Power Boost will be configured with its clamp, not left in the box; (4) the Wallbox warranty gets registered in your name. If a bidder hesitates on any of the four, that’s your answer.
