We install the EP Cube 2.0 (5–40 kWh, now in stock); your free assessment includes the confirmed all-in number in writing before you sign, less $1,000 when bundled with a new solar install. As a rule of thumb, the battery, inverter, and gateway hardware is roughly 60% of a full Alberta installation — design, engineering, permits, electrical materials, licensed labour, commissioning, inspection, and warranty backing make up the other 40%, and your written quote itemizes it. Runtime depends on battery size and power usage. At 90% usable capacity with essential loads (fridge, furnace fan, lights, sump pump, Wi-Fi) drawing ~1 kW continuously — a conservative worst case — the EP Cube 2.0 runs ~4.5 hours (5 kWh), ~9 hours (10 kWh), ~13 hours (15 kWh), or ~18 hours (20 kWh). Real appliances cycle on and off, so with realistic winter duty cycles the same essentials average ~530 W and runtimes roughly double — model your own loads in the Backup Designer. Running only a fridge and freezer, a 10 kWh unit lasts ~60 hours (about 2½ days). Paired with solar, the battery recharges daily and can ride through multi-day outages.

A battery switches over automatically in milliseconds — you won't notice the outage. A generator requires manual startup in the dark, produces noise and carbon monoxide, needs ongoing fuel and maintenance, and is restricted or banned in many residential areas. The EP Cube is silent, zero-maintenance, zero-fuel, and operates automatically. It also has no carbon monoxide risk, making it safe for indoor installation.

Yes. The EP Cube is compatible with existing solar installations and third-party inverters. Its built-in hybrid inverter supports both AC and DC coupling, meaning it can integrate with virtually any existing solar setup. The EP Cube battery carries a 10-year manufacturer warranty from Canadian Solar. The built-in hybrid inverter also has a 10-year warranty. Stellar Upgrades adds a 5-year workmanship warranty (10-year Premium tier available) covering all electrical work and installation. The EP Cube app for monitoring is included for the lifetime of the system at no additional cost.

Yes. The EP Cube 2.0 is modular in 5 kWh steps, so capacity can be added to the same unit as your needs grow. Up to two EP Cube units can be paralleled in an Alberta home, capped at the 40 kWh aggregate residential limit set by Canadian Electrical Code Rule 64-918. This makes it suitable for any home size, from essential-circuit backup to whole-home independence — and existing EP Cube 1.0 owners can expand with a paired unit too.

The EP Cube is wall-mounted, typically in your attached garage, which stays within the unit’s -10°C to 50°C operating range even when it’s -40°C outside. It has a NEMA 4X rating (waterproof and dustproof). An unheated detached garage can drop below the minimum operating temperature in an Edmonton winter, so detached installs are assessed case-by-case at your free site visit. Under Canadian Electrical Code Rule 64-918 and Alberta STANDATA Variance 21-ECV-064-900-ESS, basements are prohibited and attached garages are explicitly permitted. Our Master Electrician handles all mounting, wiring, panel integration, and permitting.

EP Cube 2.0 upgrades the hybrid inverter from 7.6 kW continuous to 11.5 kW continuous (15–40 kWh SKUs) and adds 185 A LRA motor-start surge. Capacity moves from a fixed 9.9/13.3/16.6/19.9 kWh lineup to 5 kWh modular increments from 5 to 40 kWh per single unit. MPPTs increase from 4 to 6, EV charger compatibility expands to 2 × 40 A Level 2 chargers, and the Smart Gateway is upgraded with seamless on-grid / off-grid switchover. Both share the same LFP chemistry and 10-year / 6,000-cycle warranty backed by Canadian Solar. EP Cube 1.0 is now sold out at the supplier; EP Cube 2.0 is the generation we install today, with your confirmed all-in price provided in writing at the free assessment. The EP Cube warranty guarantees at least 80% of original capacity at 10 years or 6,000 cycles, whichever comes first — many competing batteries only warrant 70%. LFP chemistry degrades slowly, so the system doesn’t stop at year 10; it keeps operating at reduced capacity, and LFP home batteries commonly remain useful well beyond the warranty period. Because the EP Cube is modular, capacity can also be added later if your needs grow.

There is currently no provincial rebate for a standalone home battery in Alberta — we’d rather tell you that straight than imply savings that don’t exist. Municipal CEIP financing (Edmonton, St. Albert, Spruce Grove, Beaumont and others) can fund a battery when it’s bundled with a solar installation, and $0-down term financing is available on approved credit. Yes. It’s not either/or — the EP Cube 2.0 has a generator input, and we have integrated EP Cube systems with existing standby generators on 1.0 installs as well. The battery handles the instant, silent switchover and daily backup; the generator becomes the deep reserve for extended outages.
