Customer Story

So thrilled with this company. Our system was installed over a year ago and it was the best decision we ever made. We used to pay $600 to $800 in bills, but now we pay nothing to the utility company.

Why Battery Backup

Power outages are getting worse.

Alberta’s grid faces extreme weather, aging infrastructure, and surging demand. Extended outages cost Alberta households $2,000–$15,000+ in spoiled food, frozen pipes, sump pump failure, and hotel stays. Damage cost ranges drawn from Insurance Bureau of Canada water-damage averages and Alberta property-claim data. Full Edmonton battery cost breakdown →

Home with lights on during power outage and lightning storm — EP Cube battery backup keeps your home powered

Extreme Weather

Ice storms, severe winters, and heat waves cause outages lasting hours or days. Frequency is increasing every year across Alberta.

🏭

Frozen Pipes: $5,000–$15,000

When your furnace fan stops, pipes freeze and burst. Insurance doesn't always cover the damage if you weren't home to prevent it.

🧀

Spoiled Food: $300–$800

Fridge and freezer contents start spoiling within 4 hours. A deep freeze full of meat can mean hundreds lost in a single outage.

💧

Sump Pump Failure: $3,000–$10,000

When power goes out in spring, your sump pump stops. Basement flooding follows. The EP Cube keeps it running automatically.

How It Works

Automatic protection in milliseconds.

The EP Cube monitors your grid connection 24/7. When power drops, it takes over instantly. When the grid returns, it switches back seamlessly. No buttons to press, no fuel to buy.

1. Outage Detected

Grid power drops. EP Cube detects it in under 20 milliseconds.

🔄

2. Instant Switchover

Built-in hybrid inverter switches your home to battery. No flicker.

🏠

3. Home Stays Powered

Fridge, furnace fan, lights, sump pump, Wi-Fi — all keep running.

📱 Monitor Everything From Your Phone

Real-time battery charge level, power consumption, and backup status. Get alerts when the grid goes down. The EP Cube app works on iOS and Android.

Every EP Cube battery on this page is installed by our Red Seal Master Electrician and in-house crew — same team from quote to commissioning. No subcontractors. No out-of-province dispatch.

Garage installation is the standard placement for Alberta winters. EP Cube’s NEMA 4X enclosure handles outdoor too, but attached garages stay above the –10°C operating threshold even at –30°C outside.

Common Questions

Battery backup FAQ.

EP Cube battery backup cost depends on the size you need (9.9, 13.3, 16.6, or 19.9 kWh) and your installation location (attached vs detached garage). Every quote from Stellar Upgrades is all-in: the battery system, built-in hybrid inverter, all electrical work by our master electricians, engineering, permitting, and city inspection are included. No hidden fees. $0-down financing is available. Take our quiz to find your size, then we'll give you the exact number for your home. Financing details →
Runtime depends on battery size and power usage. Running essential loads (fridge, furnace fan, lights, sump pump, Wi-Fi) simultaneously, the 9.9 kWh lasts ~10 hours, 13.3 kWh ~13 hours, 16.6 kWh ~17 hours, and 19.9 kWh ~20 hours. Running only a fridge and freezer, even the smallest size lasts ~66 hours (nearly 3 days). If paired with solar panels, the battery recharges during the day for potentially unlimited backup.
A battery switches over automatically in under 20 milliseconds — you won't notice the outage. A generator requires manual startup in the dark, produces noise and carbon monoxide, needs ongoing fuel and maintenance, and is restricted or banned in many residential areas. The EP Cube is silent, zero-maintenance, zero-fuel, and operates automatically. It also has no carbon monoxide risk, making it safe for indoor installation.
Yes. The EP Cube is compatible with existing solar installations and third-party inverters. Its built-in hybrid inverter supports both AC and DC coupling, meaning it can integrate with virtually any existing solar setup. If you don't have solar, the battery still works — it charges from the grid and provides backup during outages. Learn about adding solar →
The EP Cube battery carries a 10-year manufacturer warranty from Canadian Solar. The built-in hybrid inverter also has a 10-year warranty. Stellar Upgrades adds a 5-year workmanship warranty (10-year Premium tier available) covering all electrical work and installation. The EP Cube app for monitoring is included for the lifetime of the system at no additional cost.
Yes. The EP Cube uses a modular design with 3.3 kWh battery modules. You can add modules to increase capacity anytime. Up to three EP Cube units can be connected in parallel, providing up to 59.9 kWh of storage and 22.8 kW of output power. This makes it suitable for any home size, from essential-circuit backup to whole-home independence.
The EP Cube is wall-mounted, typically in your garage. It has a NEMA 4X rating (waterproof and dustproof) and operates from -10°C to 50°C, so it can be installed indoors or outdoors. Most Edmonton homeowners choose attached-garage installation under Canadian Electrical Code Rule 64-918 and Alberta STANDATA Variance 21-ECV-064-900-ESS — basements are prohibited, attached garages are explicitly permitted. Our Master Electrician handles all mounting, wiring, panel integration, and permitting.
EP Cube 2.0 upgrades the hybrid inverter from 7.6 kW continuous to 11.5 kW continuous (15–40 kWh SKUs) and adds 185 A LRA motor-start surge. Capacity moves from a fixed 9.9/13.3/16.6/19.9 kWh lineup to 5 kWh modular increments from 5 to 40 kWh per single unit. MPPTs increase from 4 to 6, EV charger compatibility expands to 2 × 40 A Level 2 chargers, and the Smart Gateway is upgraded with seamless on-grid / off-grid switchover. Both share the same LFP chemistry and 10-year / 6,000-cycle warranty backed by Canadian Solar. Stellar offers both today. EP Cube 1.0 is at our posted Edmonton pricing (from $19,381 installed for 9.9 kWh). EP Cube 2.0 install pricing in Alberta is consultation-only while we finalize 2.0 install pricing — we will not post a number until it’s locked. Full EP Cube 2.0 spec deep-dive →

Yes. We pay $100 per installed kilowatt on commissioning to anyone who refers a homeowner who installs with Stellar. On a 19.9 kWh EP Cube install, that’s roughly $1,990 on the inverter side. If you refer a homeowner who installs with Stellar, we pay $100 per installed kilowatt on commissioning. On a 19.9 kWh EP Cube, that’s about $1,990 on the inverter side; on a 9 kW solar + battery bundle, $900 on the panels alone.
