The solar recipe
for a home in Mundare.
Mundare knows a good recipe — the Stawnichy family has been making kubasa here since 1959. Ours is a different kind: the right panels, a tested method, and a result you can taste on the power bill. We're about an hour east of our Edmonton shop on Highway 15, and there's no travel surcharge — same crew, same pricing as in the city.
One system, three parts.
A solar install isn't magic and it isn't a mystery. It's a recipe: the right ingredients, a method that's been run hundreds of times, and a result you can count on. Here's exactly what goes into a Mundare home — nothing hidden, no fine print buried at the bottom.
- LONGi 500W panels — high-efficiency, sized to your roof and your bill, typically a 7–8 kW array
- APsystems DS3 microinverters — one per panel pair, so a little shade on one panel doesn't drag the rest down
- Critter guard around the array edge — keeps birds and squirrels out from under the panels
- Lifetime leak-proof roof guarantee on every penetration we make
- Bi-directional meter & micro-gen paperwork — we file it, you don't lift a finger
- Our in-house crew, supervised by a Master Electrician — no subcontracted strangers
- Assess. We look at your last 12 months of power bills, your roof (or a spot for a ground-mount), and your panel. Free, no obligation.
- Design. We size the array to wipe out your annual usage and send you a fixed quote — the real number, not a teaser.
- Permit & micro-gen. We pull the electrical permit and file your micro-generation application with ATCO Electric, the utility that owns the wires in Mundare.
- Install. Our crew mounts the racking, panels, and microinverters — usually one to three days on a typical home.
- Meter swap. ATCO Electric swaps your meter for a bi-directional one that counts both directions.
- Switch on. System goes live, you start banking summer credits, and we walk you through the monitoring app.
A typical 7–8 kW system lands around $19,600–$22,400 before incentives. Smaller 3–6 kW arrays cost a bit more per watt because the fixed costs spread over fewer panels. Mundare's ~2,300 sun hours and cold, clear winters — cold actually makes panels run more efficiently — do the rest.
Three no-nonsense ways to pay for it.
No high-pressure financing games. Pick what fits, and we'll show you the math for each at your assessment.
Cash
The simplest path and the cheapest over time. Pay up front and you earn roughly a 10% discount versus financed pricing. This is where the ~$2.80/W rate lives.
$0-Down Financeit
Spread it out with nothing down through Financeit. A modest markup covers the lender; many homeowners' monthly payment lands near what they were already paying ATCO.
Mortgage Roll-In
Refinancing or renewing? Folding the system into your mortgage or a HELOC often gets you the lowest interest of all — and keeps the cash price.
Some Alberta municipalities offer Clean Energy Improvement Program (CEIP) financing, repaid on your property tax bill. We can't confirm the Town of Mundare runs CEIP — check the current list on the official CEIP locations page, then see our full financing options →
How solar pays you back in Alberta.
Your utility: ATCO Electric
The poles, wires, and meter in Mundare belong to ATCO Electric — not FortisAlberta, not EPCOR. They handle your micro-generation approval and the bi-directional meter swap. We submit the application and take care of the permit for you. ATCO Electric →
Net metering credits
Under Alberta's Micro-Generation Regulation, the surplus your panels send to the grid in summer earns retail-rate credits that offset your winter draw. That's how Mundare homes get to roughly $0 a year. How net metering works →
Choosing a retailer
Alberta's retail side is deregulated. The default is the Rate of Last Resort (it replaced the old RRO on January 1, 2025). You can shop retailers freely; net metering works the same regardless. About the Rate of Last Resort →
Alberta winters
Yes, it snows. Panels still produce on bright winter days, snow slides off the tilted glass, and the cold keeps them efficient. Your summer surplus is what carries you through the short days. Solar in Alberta winters →
A town that respects a good build.
Mundare is a town of around 875 people in Lamont County, sitting on Highway 15 between Lamont and Vegreville, about 84 km — roughly an hour — east of our Edmonton shop. You'd know it by the World's Largest Sausage: a 12.8-metre (42-foot), ~12,000-pound fibreglass kubasa raised in 2001 by a foundation the Stawnichy family started. They've been making Mundare sausage since 1959, and that pride in doing something properly is part of why we like working out here.
The Ukrainian-Canadian roots run deep — the Basilian Fathers Museum and Grotto are right in town, and the Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Village is just down the road. For solar, the layout works in your favour. The town core and a few newer streets give us clean rooftop installs, and the Lamont County acreages and farms around Mundare are some of the best ground-mount candidates we see: wide-open southern exposure and room to angle an array exactly right.
It's a longer drive than a city job, and we'll say it plainly: there's no travel surcharge. Same LONGi panels, same APsystems microinverters, same Master-Electrician-supervised crew, same pricing as Edmonton. The Highway 15 corridor is a regular run for us.
Battery & EV charging.
Home Battery Backup
Out past town, a storm or a downed line can mean a long wait for power. A whole-home battery stores your solar and keeps the lights, furnace fan, and fridge running through an outage — with switchover fast enough that you barely notice.
See if a battery fits →EV Chargers
If there's an EV in the driveway, a Level 2 charger turns your panels into free fuel. We install the charger and handle any panel work in the same visit, so it's done right and to code the first time.

Our system was installed over a year ago and it was the best decision we ever made. We used to pay $600–$800 in bills, but now we pay nothing to the utility company!
Had a great experience with Stellar Upgrades. The team was knowledgeable, professional, and took the time to explain everything clearly. They made switching to solar feel simple and stress-free.
Best company we dealt with — true professionals, and the best pricing for what they actually deliver. They even called us a year after install just to check on the system.
