01 · Edmonton

The homes we see most in Edmonton.

Edmonton is two cities on one grid. Inside the Henday it is 1950s to 1970s bungalows and split-levels with long, straight fascias — Westmount, Glenora, Allendale, Pleasantview, Ottewell, Beverly — and the infill two-storeys now going up between them. Outside it is the 2000s two-storey with a front-attached garage and two or three gables: Terwillegar, Windermere, Heritage Valley, Chappelle, Summerside, Tamarack, Laurel, Keswick. The two halves price very differently for the same footage, which is exactly why we quote from photos of your rooflines rather than a house width.

117 ft of lit roofline × $28 to $32, plus the $500 controller, before travel and GST. Our crew works out of south Edmonton, so inside the city travel is the smallest line on the quote. Your exact number comes from three photos, free, and if your home falls outside the band we say so before we quote.

02 · The Price

$28 to $32 a foot, installed.

Most Edmonton homes land between $28 and $32 per linear foot of lit roofline. That includes the Gemstone track and LEDs, installation by our own electricians, and both warranties. Add $500 for the controller that runs it from your phone, plus travel to your address and GST. Your exact number comes from your rooflines, which is why we ask for three photos.

What moves a home from $28 toward $32
  • Peaks and corners. Every gable, dormer and return is a cut, a join and a run back to the track. A long, straight fascia sits at $28; a roofline with six peaks sits nearer $32.
  • Height and pitch. Two‑storey eaves and steep roofs take longer and take more of the lift.
  • Fascia material. Stone, stucco and metal cladding mount more slowly than wood or vinyl.
  • The run to power. A short path to a sheltered outlet is simple; a long run around the house is not.

Front and sides, about 150 ft: $4,700 – $5,300. A full wraparound, about 300 ft: $8,900 – $10,100, and a large wraparound sometimes needs a second controller.

Canadian dollars, before GST. Homes outside the typical band — three storeys, unusual access, very long runs — are quoted individually, and we say so before we quote. Four worked examples, how to measure your own roofline and the ten-year comparison with seasonal lights are in our Alberta permanent lighting cost guide.

03 · Who Installs It

An electrical contractor.
Not a seasonal crew.

Almost nothing that goes wrong with permanent lighting is a product failure. It is the mounting, the sealing of the penetrations, the alignment of the track along an uneven fascia, and the connection back to power. All of that is electrical work, and most permanent lighting in Alberta is sold by lighting retailers or seasonal holiday-light crews who subcontract exactly that part.

Stellar Upgrades is a licensed electrical contractor with its own crew, supervised by a Red Seal Master Electrician, working on Alberta homes since 2018. We are the people who would be in your panel for a solar array or an EV charger. We do not subcontract, and we are still here to answer the phone in year five.

Common questions.

Most Edmonton homes land between $28 and $32 per linear foot of lit roofline, installed, plus $500 for the controller, plus travel to your address and GST. That includes the Gemstone track and LEDs, installation by our own electricians, the 12-month installation warranty and the manufacturer warranty. A typical two-storey front in Terwillegar or Windermere is about 117 feet of roofline, which works out to $3,776 to $4,244 before travel and GST. Our crew works out of south Edmonton, so inside the city travel is the smallest line on the quote.

Complexity, not size. A long, straight, single-storey fascia on wood or vinyl sits at $28. Peaks, dormers and returns, two-storey height and steep pitch, stone or stucco cladding, and a long run to the nearest sheltered outlet move a home toward $32. Homes past the band, usually three storeys or unusual access, are quoted individually and we tell you from the photos.

All of them. Most of our lighting work is in the newer two-storey communities — Terwillegar, Windermere, Heritage Valley, Chappelle, Summerside, Tamarack — and in the mature bungalow streets of Westmount, Glenora, Allendale, Pleasantview, Ottewell and Beverly. Our crew is based in south Edmonton, so inside the city travel is the smallest line on the quote.

Usually, and they can look sharp: the track follows the parapet edge and any fascia line. Stucco and stone slow the mounting and a long run to the only outlet adds labour, so some infills price past $32 a foot. We tell you that from the photos, before anyone comes out.

Send three photos of the front of your house through the form: straight on and from each corner. We draw the layout on your actual rooflines and send a written, itemized price: footage, controller, travel, GST. No site visit, no deposit, no obligation. If you accept, installation is usually booked within ten days to two weeks.

Stellar’s own electricians, the same in-house crew behind more than 550 solar, battery and EV charger projects across Alberta since 2018, supervised by a Red Seal Master Electrician. Stellar carries the 12-month installation warranty. Central Alberta Lighting in Red Deer is the authorized Gemstone dealer: they supply the system and register your manufacturer warranty with Gemstone. Stellar is not a Gemstone dealer and does not claim to be.

Yes. The track is aluminum, the lights are sealed and rated for the cold, and the system is designed for exactly this climate: dark by four-thirty from November to February, ice on the eaves, wind off the prairie. The Gemstone Hub controller lives inside, and the only part of the system you touch all winter is the app.
