Scope of work

Edson runs on getting the job done right — forestry, oilfield, rail. We work the same way: a clear scope, an honest estimate off your real bills, and a clean install. Rooftop and acreage ground-mount solar, EP Cube battery backup and EV chargers, all on FortisAlberta net metering and supervised by a Master Electrician.

Item 01 · Site assessment

Good ground for a solar job.

West-central Alberta gives solar plenty to work with: long summer days, wide-open sky on the acreages, and cold, clear winter air that panels actually prefer — they convert more efficiently the colder they run. Edson sees solid year-round sun for a town this far west.

What closes the case is the bill. Rural delivery costs more than city power, so every kilowatt-hour your own roof makes is worth more in Edson than the same panel would save in Edmonton.

Item 02 · The estimate

An honest line-item estimate.

No mystery pricing. The cash rate's $2.80 a watt on a standard build, with a small per-watt bump on the littlest systems as fixed costs ride on fewer panels. We scope the estimate against your actual twelve months of FortisAlberta billing — no guesswork.

SystemAnnual outputEstimate
5 kW~6,000 kWh$16–20k
7.5 kW~9,000 kWh~$21k
10 kW~12,000 kWh~$28k
15 kW+ ground-mount~18,000+ kWh$42k+
Item 03 · Payment terms

How you pay for it.

Cash earns the best price, but it's not required up front. Whichever route you take, the system is yours and a critter guard plus a lifetime leak-proof roof guarantee are included.

Cash

Pay it out and the meter's your only bill — best price, quickest return.

$0-down loan

Financeit covers it with nothing down; the payment usually lands under your old power bill.

Roll it in

Fold it into a mortgage refinance or HELOC for the cheapest money going.

Item 04 · Service connection

Your utility, and how credits work.

In Edson the distribution lines, the poles and your meter belong to FortisAlberta, and the micro-generation application goes to them. Buying the power itself is separate — the retail market is open, so your retailer stays your call.

The credit side is provincial: FortisAlberta swaps in a two-way meter, pays you back one kWh for every kWh you send out, and carries unused credits a full year — so summer's extra quietly covers the winter draw.

Item 05 · Coverage area

Town and across Yellowhead County.

Site A

Town of Edson

Established neighbourhoods and newer builds — Fortis-connected rooftop work on most of the housing stock.

Site B

Yellowhead County acreages

Open rural lots ideal for a ground-mount sized to the house, a shop and a well pump together.

Site C

Niton Junction, Peers & Wildwood

Communities east along Highway 16 — rooftop in the hamlet, ground-mount on the land.

Site D

Marlboro, Bickerdike & the corridor

Acreages and properties west toward Hinton — the same work, the same standard.

Item 06 · Add-ons

Battery & EV, briefly.

Rural west-central lines go down more often than city ones — wind, snow and the occasional summer storm. On its own, solar powers down in an outage for safety; add an EP Cube battery and the place stays lit, switching over inside 20 milliseconds.

Battery backup
EP Cube

Whole-home backup that holds through an outage and saves the day's sun for the evening.

EV charging
Wallbox Pulsar

A 40A or 48A unit — run the truck on your own power instead of the pump.

Queries

Solar in Edson, answered.

In Edson the poles, lines and your meter are FortisAlberta's, so your micro-generation file goes to them. The retail side is open — buy your power from any retailer you like. Once you're solar, Fortis fits a two-way meter and you join net metering under the provincial Micro-Generation Regulation: one credit for every exported kWh, held up to 12 months toward winter.
Most homes land on the $2.80/W cash rate at 7–8 kW. The smallest 3–6 kW systems cost a touch more per watt — fewer panels under the same fixed costs — so a 5 kW is about $16,000–$20,000, and acreage ground-mounts climb past $40,000–$50,000+. Critter guards and the lifetime leak-proof roof guarantee are in that price, and zero-down Financeit is on the table. With rural delivery sitting high, each kWh you cover is worth more here than in the city.
Yes — the open Yellowhead County land is well suited to it. We set a ground-mount at the ideal angle and size it to carry a shop, well pump or shop heat on top of the house, with headroom to expand. It comes with the same panel-level monitoring and lifetime warranties as a roof system, and we take care of the Fortis micro-generation paperwork and engineering.
For a lot of west-central homes, yes. Lines out here drop more often and for longer than in town — wind, snow load, the occasional summer cell. Add an EP Cube battery to your solar and the house simply keeps going, switching over in under 20 milliseconds so heat, water and the fridge never notice. On an acreage that reliability often matters as much as the bill savings.
The drive doesn't shrink your warranty. You get 5-year workmanship cover (10-year Premium optional), a lifetime leak-proof guarantee, 25-year LONGi product and 30-year production warranties, plus 25-year APsystems microinverter cover. Most faults we spot remotely through panel-level monitoring, and we run service trips along the Highway 16 corridor in batches so nobody waits on us.
Yes — we cover the Town of Edson and the surrounding Yellowhead County, including Niton Junction, Peers, Wildwood, Marlboro and Bickerdike. In town it's usually a Fortis-connected rooftop install; on county acreages we build ground-mounts sized to the whole property. We handle the FortisAlberta micro-generation application either way.

Edson · Bills & Rates

Why is your Edson power bill so high?

Less than half of a Edson electricity bill is the power you actually used. The rest is delivery — transmission, distribution (including a fixed daily charge), rate riders and the municipal local access fee — none of which you can shop away by switching retailers. Our line-by-line breakdown shows exactly where your money goes in Edson, and the honest version of what rooftop solar zeroes out (the energy charge) versus what it doesn’t (the fixed connection costs).
